Grinds and slides make up a fair majority of skateboard tricks. Grinds include 50-50's, 5-0's, crookeds, smiths, feebles, and nosegrinds. Slides include boardslides, noseslides, tailslide, lipslides, and bluntslides. These types of tricks are very important because they allow skaters to link other tricks into and out of their grind or slide, thus creating very technical combos.
All tricks in skateboarding have two variations in which they can be done; frontside or backside. Frontside and backside are terms used by skaters to refer to which direction their board or body spins while doing a trick. For a skater that skates with a goofy stance (right foot forward), frontside tricks rotate counter-clockwise, however for a skater with a regular stance (left foot forward), frontside tricks rotate clockwise. The same conditions apply with backside tricks between goofy and regular skaters. For skaters with a goofy stance, backside tricks rotate clockwise while for skaters with a regular stance, backside tricks rotate counter-clockwise. The terms frontside and backside take on a different meaning when used to refer to the way a skater approached an obstacle. When a trick is done frontside, the skater approaches the obstacle with it in front of them, while baskside refers to a skater approching an obstacle with it behind them.

The 5-0 grind is a trick created by some clever wordplay and good sense of balance. To perform a 5-0, a skater must grind an obstacle landing only the back truck on the coping or rail.
The nosegrind is a stylish trick that requires a very intricate sense of balance and nerves of steel. To perform a nosegrind, a sk
